Why did Niyyanika.org disappear?

Niyyanika.org and PassaddhiVihara.org were both compromised by malware last December. We moved both sites to a new hosting service, increased security, and began rebuilding. Of course, the Passaddhi Vihara website had priority as it contains the current Dhamma offerings of Passaddhi Vihara, how to sign up to offer a meal, and other critical information for running the monastery. Please visit that site (passaddhivihara.org) for all the current information and links for the vihara.

It took me longer to rebuild the niyyanika.org site because most of my practice and activities were centered around Passaddhi Vihara. Which will remain true going forward. So it didn’t seem a particularly needed resource.

So why was there a Niyyanika.org in the first place?

The website was created at the end of 2022, when Aloka Vihara in Placerville, CA was packing up to close, and the monastics were going in different directions. I planned on spending a year traveling and many people wanted to know about the travel, how it was going and how they could support. A website seemed the most easeful way of communicating to the number of people I wanted to stay in touch with.

The past travel blogs will be restored to this site as time allows.

What will be on Niyyanika.org now?

First off, having a website again makes it possible to share travel updates as I am again away from the USA. This time it is just for the Vassa. I am in South Korea at Dhammadharini Korea Monastery with Ayya Sucitta. I will return in late November to Passaddhi Vihara in Washington State, USA.

Secondly, there are some things I’ve been asked to write about. A website seems a reasonable place to collect those essays and articles so they could be easily accessed by others.

Third, there are programs I’ve done in the past and may offer in the future that fall outside of the immediate Passaddhi Vihara framework. Those programs needed a home for distribution.

And, eventually, there are some projects, such as Vinaya study materials, that are on hold in these early years of Passaddhi Vihara development, that I hope to pickup and share in the future.

So that is why the revival of Niyyanika.org.
